Two of my many passions are travel and art. My number one place I want to visit is India and hopefully we will be able to go in the next few years. I started this piece with that in mind and this is what I came up with. I soon realized that it will be shown directly below my rocking chair piece in the mosaic which is similair in color. I went back to the drawing board and made another piece using cool colors which did nothing for me, so I decided to use this piece and hope it does not look to weird in the mosaic. One of my other passions is art and I realized this piece looked a lot like something Hundertwasser would do, so I was pleased to be able to combine these two favorites. This piece is made using a method from the C June Barnes book "Stitching to Dye in Quilt Art" involving wool batting, stitching, then dyeing.

I can feel the heat wave from here! What a wonderful composition of color and texture. I'd love to see this one in person -- I bet it just screams to be touched.
This just screams India - curry, hot, messy, a visual treat. Your work always does that for me. Makes me want to dig down into it and see what is there.
This is a quit that needs looking at for a long time to see all the individual bits - hard to imagine how you got it all in in 12 inches. I keep lookig at that book and not buying it. Maybe at festival of Quilts I wil get it!
India also came to mind when considering this theme but I was thinking Bollywood and the riot of colour. Your interpretation is more elegant but no less evocative and I can't wait to see this piece in person.
All I can think to say is BEAUTIFUL! Just beautiful. I can't even imagine how you did this, but it doesn't matter. It is just rich and wonderful and BEAUTIFUL!
The tightness caused by the shrinking wool, and the skyline/sun really evoke a scene on a crowded street, maybe in Mombai. Very effective!
They are all so wonderful as usual and lots of warm colors. I have also used warm colors which you can see in my play-along piece on my blog.
That is a great book Karen, and you did a marvelous job on this piece. The color is so awesome!
WOW! As one who has lived in very hot places, can I say that you have captured the heat SO well! It feels just like that. I can't believe this is only 12 x 12. It looks so much bigger! The complexity and richness is amazing and I could stare at it for hours.

Karen! This does evoke a hot city, full of life. I love the amazing detail in the fabric -- like ruching? I'd love to see this in person. I hope you get to see India soon!
What a heat wave! I can feel the city full of life and sweaty passions.
Beautiful quilt!
These are really the colours I saw in the pictures my DH took in India. And the texture... Wow! I must see it in real.
