This year I have been doodling and Zentangling more. I enjoy drawing these fun designs and I'm always amazed at the creativity of other artists. Shortly before Deborah announced this color palette, I came across a Zentangle pattern design named
Struzzle. This design, created by
Jo Newsham, intrigued me. I kept looking at it and thought it would make a fabulous quilt pattern.
I wrote Jo and asked her permission to use her pattern as my quilt inspiration for this challenge. Jo very kindly granted me permission. Thanks Jo!
I started by drawing the design to size and creating my template pieces. Next I collaged several different fabrics from each color family onto some stiff interfacing and then quilted each fabric-covered interfacing piece. I cut out my pattern pieces, placed them onto a black background fabric and stitched around each piece to secure it to the quilt. I finished the edges of the quilt with one of my favorite methods, couched fibers.

I love puzzles and it is fun to see how you put this together.
I think the edge is my favorite part Terri, with the black fabric following the designs on the piece. Zentangling looks very addictive and fun.
Cool play on the original doodle. I like how you've taken teh basic idea and built on it with the color and visual texture. The couched border is so fun -- it kind of continues the expansive feeling of the puzzle pieces -- the whole thing is just going to burst out at you!
What a fun method. You may have started a trend. I love the combination of fabrics you used in each puzzle piece; the subtle variations of color and pattern.

I always like seeing how you use printed fabrics -- you have a real skill in that -- and this piece shows that off! It's fun to look at - great color and movement. Cool border, too!

I haven't seen anything like this before. Your fabric choices are great, Terri. And, yes, I'm enamoured of the border, too!
I do, of course, see the puzzle connection here, but I also see a view of fields and ponds from the air. (Maybe seeing Diane's piece first got my brain pointed in that direction!) The richness of those patterned fabrics gives it a wonderfully textural quality.
This has an aerial patchwork landscape quality to it with the added fun of the Zentangle detail.
And it's a curvy nine-patch too!
