When I saw Deborah's Colorplay palette, it spoke landscape to me. I love doing landscapes and I have done many with aspens, but never for the Twelve x Twelve challenges. So, I decided to put some aspens in this piece.
I used the landscape method that I learned from
Sue Benner. The batting has a layer of fusing. Then I tore strips of fabrics in the color palette and created the background. This is then fused to the background and stitched.
I have more details on my
blog. Here is a detail:

Your greens and browns are perfect for this Gerrie, and the little background trees on the other side of the river add a lot of dimension.
And a Portlandia reference to boot! This was definitely a very aspen-y color palette. I really like the variety of fabrics you've used.
This is so lovely Gerrie. This palette certainly does speak landscape and that was one of my initial responses to it as well. I love your aspens and I'm happy you created an aspen tree quilt for our group.
This has a bright energy with these cool colors -- the white of your Aspen trunks makes those landscape colors glow!
Lovely, lovely! There is so much depth in this quilt. Glad I'm not the only one who stretched the palette :)
I love the energy you created with such a serene color palette--the ground and river are so alive and happy.
Great landscape technique. The water has a lot of energy in it. My favorite thing are those little polka dotted trees on the far bank.
I did a two minute study (with paint leftovers) involving a foreground, river and spiky trees is the background but this piece is way more resolved and expertly executed with the added interest of the aspen trunks in the foreground. The clear palette also pulls me in. Just beautiful!
I love how you have used such a myriad of fabrics and how they give the whole piece such brightness
