I had very few of these colors in my stash of fabric. I was about to paint some fabric when I noticed that I had all of the colors in my wool roving stash. I decided to felt the piece. I wanted to machine felt it, but I broke an attachment so I thought I would try my hand at nuno (wet)felting.
The felted piece was attached to a 12 by 12 inch square of felt. I then beaded and stitched with perle cotton. This is probably the most embellished piece I have ever constructed!!
You can see how I did the nuno felting on my blog,
Crazy for Fiber. Here is a detail shot.

This has a very happy energy! I really like how the swirly bits of roming are "tamed" by the regular patterns of stitching and beading. A lovely contrast! The lines of X's have a faint echo with Brenda's "pre Lorikeet" piece, too!
I agree with Diane on the happy energy of this piece. The shapes are fun too. As this quilt scrolled into my computer monitors viewing area, I definitely would not have chosen it as your quilt.
I am glad that I fooled you Teri! I had so much fun embellishing this. And Diane is right in that, I felt the need to contain the vibrant background with stitching and beading.
You really went all out! I love it. I've done a bit of nuno felting. It's fun -- and you never really know what you're going to get. Your stitching really does add a layer of interest while also pulling it together into a great composition. I especially love the longer yellow beads!
Wow! It's not typical Gerrie, but it's still very Gerrie. :-) I'm also surprised at how all that embellishment can actually bring it all together and calm the piece down a bit. Somehow it works. It's very exuberant. (And happily, it doesn't look at all like the dog got to the lorikeet!)
This is amazing Gerrie, it seems random, but you pulled it together with the stitching. I love the overlapping circles, and those x's
Very wonderful Gerrie...great job!!
Crrraaaazy lorikeet explosion! The black background really makes those colors zing. I am surprised you are the only one that thought to use black. It really does give those colors a lot of energy.
Terry! I was listening for your groan or scream when you saw this today!! LOL As soon as I grabbed those colors, I knew I needed black to set them off.
So happy, playful and unrestrained. Just like a lorikeet really (not that this is a theme challenge). How intriguing that we both used big cross stitch on our lorikeet pieces.
Maybe Terri will come up with a gentler palette for the next challenge to bring us some relief :-)
Very fun! Great job stitching the lorikeet back together after the dog got to it--just kidding. Love the nuno felting and how you tied it all together with the hand stitching and beads.
I've been trying a bit of felting lately - nothing with the energy and feverishness of this, though, Gerrie! I'm especially taken with the stitching. Nice touch :)
