Sage

I grew up in classic sagebrush country and this is the color I think of when I hear "sage green." It is almost gray, and definitely more toward the blue, than the yellow end of green. When I first saw Deborah's color samples I thought, "that doesn't look like sage to me, but..." Then I saw the photo of the herb, sage, that Brenda posted and the color was pretty close to Deborah's green.

I just did a Google image search on the words "sage green." and this is the top of  the images shown.

Ha! It looks like quite a number of medium to light shades of green can be called sage. What do you think sage green is?

Howdy Terry,

This is too much serendipity. For the past few days, I've been researching sage green for an art project I'm developing based on a fantastic dream I had.

Thanks for 'reading my mind'!

Would love for you to become a Folower when you have a momnet or 2.

Peace,

Terry, your sagebrush photo combined with just finishing re-reading East of the Mountains by David Guterson, makes me homesick for eastern Washington.

When I think of the colour sage green, or even the herb, I think of silvery blue-greens but for this challenge I will take my cue from Deborah's swatches.

I'm once again reminded of how small the world is --I had Guterson for High School English.

I was an exchange student in Sunnyside in the Yakima Valley. East of the Mountains is set further to the north but Guterson's descriptions of apple and sagebrush country are very evocative.

I'm sure you noticed that when I described my palette "sage" was the only more specific color name that I used. Brown and blue are pretty general and could be widely interpreted. I guess when I think of sage, I think more of what it is not. It's not hunter, lime or kelly green. (But if you want to use those too, that's fabulous!)

I hope all the twelves will simply use the names I offered and the paint chips from the photos as very general inspiration!

I'm so glad you posted these colors, my sage looks more like the picture on the lower left which I've been worried about. Now it's staying in.

Karen, no worrying allowed! Just keep creating.
