Windows to My Soul Windows to My Soul (detail) I hadn't been thinking for too long about this new theme, when one day I was looking for something on the Internet and came across the saying "windows to my soul". I knew immediately what I would create for this theme.
My quilt is made with fabric, but details (eyes, mouth, shading and highlights) are stitched and/or painted. The frame around the face mimics the frame around a pane of glass, or window.

Terri, I love your stitched eyebrows, and all the detail in the eyes, they really are soulful.
Lovely. The eyes in your faces are always so striking. These really do provide a window into the heart and soul of this face.
Very pretty. Yes, the eyes are striking.
And I like the different patterns in her hair.
Terri, this is beautiful. The eyes are definitely the focus, with such gorgeous painted detail. I love how you used printed fabrics so well for the hair! I also love the cropping -- the partial face and partial eye really add to a sense of vibrance in this face.
Hmmmm. I think, because of the frame, this may be interpreted as "inner," window to my soul or "outer," looking out onto the world. Do you make dolls? Her face is very doll-like and lovely. I love the hair too.
The way you used the fabric for her hair is too cool. I had to look very closely to understand what (if I even do understand) what you did. You are definitely a master of techniques.
A very poignant looking face! Wonderful!
I agree with Terri- your painted eyes are so beautiful. I love how you have framed this face, cropping it and giving the eyes more importance.
I absolutely love your piece. Her eyes say it all. Wonderful.
I agree with everyone else -- your cropping of the face does a great job of drawing the viewer in and the different fabrics for the hair remind us that this is a quilt.
The cropping is defintely wonderful and your technique is lovely. The gentle colour transition in the hair works really well, too. Dolores makes a good point - you would make very beautiful dolls if you ever have time!
Darn but your eyes are so much better than mine! I learn at the feet of a master!
