Orange You Glad I Made Two
The first piece that I made is titled, Endless Summer. I painted raw silk with Dynaflow paints and cut strips which I assembled by fusing the composition. While I was making it, I knew that it reminded me of something. It finally came to me. When we were a young married couple, we had this poster hanging in our family room.
Here is a detail:
The second piece I made should be titled insanity, but I have named it Fiesta.
I had painted a piece of silk organza with Dynaflow paints and scrunched it up on batting that I had painted orange. I ironed it and pinned it and started stitching with Perle cotton.
Here is a detail of the stitching:
So, now I need help deciding which one will join the other orange quilts in the Twelve x Twelve mosaic.

beautiful beautiful...orange makes me happy! :)
I don’t have a vote in this, but I love the Enless Summer quilt. Beautiful graphic translation of the poster!
I vote for the first one. :-)
Oh! Gerrie, these both just thrill me! I think my favorite is the first -- the lines work so beautifully together and the shapes show off the elegance of those drawn lines. I love that. The second one has a fun and zippy energy but to me the stitching and lines of the fabric compete with each other a bit? But I like the crazy energy of it!
I'd go for Fiesta. Much more to look at and not as static.
I 'm with Helen, ther's so much to see in the second one. I like the lines in the first one though... I guess it's a tossup!
I can totally see how the first one reminded you of the poster. But I too think it's a bit static, but not quite languid enough for the Title Endless Summer. Fiesta however, makes sense on all levels. The energy of the color orange is reflected in the zany energy of the scrunching and the stitching. Fiesta has my vote!
I vote for the top one. It has a more orderly feeling to it and I guess that makes me feel calmer(???). The depth of color I'm seeing in both pieces is great.
Both are fabulous. I love orange. If I picked, I think I'd go with Endless Summer.
As someone who lives on a surf beach with golden sands, I definitely relate to the first image with it's long shadows (and you obviously went for a groovy newly wed vibe in home decor!). However, my vote goes with Fiesta. All that lively hand stitching makes me happy!
I love that memories of your newlywed days were sneaking in while making your quilt.
My vote goes with Fiesta. I can't pass up that energy. There is a bit of competition with all the lines, but isn't that what a party is about.
How about letting your heart decide? Has your marriage/life been more of an endless summer or a fiesta? Perhaps some Gerrie generated heart question will decide it.
I got to see both in person this morning. Aside from the color, so different from one another! And both much better in person! I love the first one. The contrast between the crisp geometrics and the spontaneously graceful black squiggles is elegant and very reminiscent of beach and water forms. It feels like a more cohesive composition than the more chaotic fiesta piece.
The color palette is perfect! I love the way the black sets off the orange. I love both pieces too. I am really intrigued by the technique you used to attach the organza to the batting on the second piece. I can see how it's folded and scrunched and I love how you can see the patterns of the black lines overlapping each other. Very interesting.
