Some time ago, I took many pictures of a tiny snail slowly travelling on a huge tree. I used these images as a starting point for my shelter piece.
The little shell and the big tree both offer shelter to this fragile creature.
And I thought the little guy was looking very lonely all by himself. That's why there are two snails on my quilt...
I hand dyed and screenprinted the fabrics. As usual, I used machine and hand stitching.

Simple and elegant as usual too! It's nice to see one of nature's shelters to complement our man made ones.
I really like this a lot. A very ingenious shelter theme - a snail's traveling home. The color pallette is lovely.
I'm amazed to see all the different "shelter" ideas that popped into my head done so well. I love the stitching.
Oh, oh, oh!! Beautiful!
You guys who managed to produce these beautiful, elegant quilts - how do you do it?
I really like the graphic simplicity of this, Francoise. Great color, too, striking lines in your stitching, and I love how the colors fade behind the snail images. It's a great take on "shelter." I also like how you made a pair, which echos the theme of the comforting shelter of a companion.
This one seems to belong, as part of a trilogy, with your dandelion and water pieces. Beautiful, Zen-like contemplations on nature. The snail is beyond lovely.
Oh Francoise, I think this might be my favorite of your quilts so far. I love the colors and the vertical lines. The blues in the shell pieces are gorgeous against that background and the hand stitching is perfect.
I agree with Terry, thes could be a trilogy, and I agree with Terri, this is my favorite. I'm so happy you used your thermofaxed fabric in this, it's perfect
Terry and Karen are so right. Your collection of quilts have such a wonderful cohesive quality. Great job. I think there is an excellent feeling of movement in this quilt. What I first saw the snails before I read your commentary, I thought the lighter snail was "in the past" and then the darker snail showed that he had progressed up the tree. I think those vertical lines of stitching and applique also add a real sense of motion.
simply gorgeous..!! beautiful simplicity and lovely color combination.
