The moon is made of green cheese

There is no deep meaning in this, no message. It is just a happy, playful contemplation of color, shapes and fanciful stitching pattern. It was great fun to make and has inspired me to make a larger piece with some similar elements. I remember hearing, as a child, "the moon is made of green cheese." When I finished this I could see a moon in the circular focal point of the piece. I hadn't noticed the serendipitous crescent shape in the piece of beautiful marbled fabric until I was finished, but there it was—almost certainly the moon shining through.

  1. I think it's interesting how many of us have chosen to just let the colors play, and you did this very successfully Terry.

  3. This is so joyful, Terry! I can see how your thread doodling of some months ago has been incorporated, along with your skillful use of patterned fabric. I love how this has a busy energy, and yet it's still so pleasing to look at! The white dots add a lot, too.

  4. I love that blue background that tames the happy joyful energy of the composition that you created with fabric and doodles. This will be my favorite mosaic, I think.

  5. I wonder what this would look like next to Kirsten's "Bleep Bloop' Lorikeet flowers? Or your Lorikeet flowers for that matter? They all have such a fun retro-spacy look to them. This piece looks like you really enjoyed yourself making it, and I love that it has inspired even more pieces!

BTW, what is it about chartreuse that is compelling me to use so many exclamation points in my comments?

  7. Kristin, chartreuse just does that to people!!!!

Terry, the surprising element for me in this quilt is that you quilted it with white thread. I love that! It was such a great choice. Reminds me very much of the illustration style picture books that I read as a child in the 60s-70s.

  8. I was thinking the same thing about the white thread, Kirsty. Terry has done similar doodle stitching with black, but white is perfect in this application. I love it. I especially love love love the trailing stitching off the top and bottom edges. The background quilting is fun too. I love it.
