A Botanical Complement

It's remarkable how often the complementary colours of purple and yellow appear in flowers - pansies, iris, crocus and so on. There hasn't been much studio time this past couple of months but this didn't stop me from trying out a few different ideas. This was my design wall yesterday:
The quilt I really want to make is still in my head but I put the finishing touches on this lupin-inspired piece a couple of minutes before 1 July California time.

  1. This is wonderful Brenda and I enjoyed the view of your design wall. I do hope we get to see the quilt that's still in your head some day.

  2. I love the way the purple comes in off the edges, Brenda, and of course your stitching is great.

  3. Very nice, Brenda. I know you have been extra, extra busy, but I knew you would come up with a wonderful piece. I love the graphic quality and the abstraction of one of my favorite flowers.

  4. Very graphic and strong! My lupines are blooming in the yard right now and it is brilliant how you have captured their distinct posture in such a simple way.

  5. I really like this lupin piece, Brenda -- very you, a happy relation to your big calendar piece. You do so much with very simple graphic shapes and lines.

I love the squiggled fabrics up on your wall -- I'll look forward to seeing where those end up some day!

  7. You have beeen working so incredibly hard for our group. I'm surprised you have any time to get in your studio. I love the strong, graphic nature of your lupins and it is so you.

PS I'm interested in seeing what your purple and yellow circles turn into.

  8. This is so very Brenda! I saw it as merely a pleasing graphic until you mentioned lupins and then POW, it's so obviously flower stalks! Seeing you design wall now makes me think you should make another piece just the same but using the painted circles as your lupin "blooms" too. I love that orangey marigold yellow too. Very rich.
