I'm up to the quilting stage now. I thought I would try a practice run first with some of my "reject" people. In the spirit of openess, I share my practice piece with you now:
I've experimented with applying a diluted fabric paint wash to colour the background but I am not sure that I like the muddied effect as the wash bleeds into my stamped people. I also tried colouring the secondary hearts the show up in the space between the arms and legs but I think this detracts from the simple papercut imagery. Who knows what will happen next?!
i do like it very much.
ReplyDeleteReject People??? The poor fellows!
ReplyDeleteI must say I wouldn't have noticed the hearts between the people if one had not been colored. And it's such a FABULOUS aspect of the people. I hope you find some way to help people notice that they're there.
ReplyDeleteThey're lovely. I like the soft colours.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the hearts could be quilted differently, or not at all. They are such a nice "second read."
ReplyDeleteLovely practice. Have you considered painting the background after the quilting? It's a really interesting effect used in the right situation. Might be worth a test run.
ReplyDeleteYes, I quilted THEN painted on this practice piece.
